DAPHNÉ BOURBONNAIS

VIOLINIST

Born in Rimouski (Québec), Daphné completed her master’s degree with distinction (2020) at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, where she also obtained a Chamber Music Diploma (2019). She is currently completing an Artist Diploma Program (2021-2023) at the Glenn Gould School (Toronto), studying with Erika Raum.

Throughout the past years, she took part in different festival orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (2017, 2019) and the Orchestre de la Francophonie (2016, 2018). In February of 2019, she won a section position with the Orchestre Symphonique de l’Estuaire. In 2022, she was appointed Assistant Principal Second for the Ontario Philharmonic.

New music enthusiast, Daphné loves to work with new composers to create their pieces. She enjoys exploring different facets of the impact that music can have on everyone. In 2022, she joined the Vancouver-based company Foolish Operations, bringing to Toronto their piece Tricoter. Based on sensory theatre, this solo violin and contemporary dance improvised duet was showcased for the WeeFestival, Toronto’s only contemporary arts festival dedicated to the very young!

Fascinated by body awareness, Daphné completed a 250-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Luna Yoga. Having witnessed many musicians hurting themselves physically and mentally, she believes that yoga is a very complementary discipline to music. Currently in the midst of completing a 1–hour Kids Yoga Teacher Training, she wants to create a movement & music curriculum for kids of all ages.
