SIMON ALEXANDRE

VIOLINIST

Originally from the Montérégie area, Simon began the study of violin at the age of 13. He pursued his musical studies by completing a bachelor’s degree, and in 2013, graduated from a master’s degree in the class of Claude Richard at the Université de Montréal. During his studies, he was awarded a Marcel-Saucier bursary of excellence, won the OPMEM concerto competition in Montréal giving him the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the orchestra, and received a first prize in chamber music at the Festival du royaume au Saguenay. He then continued on with an internship in Switzerland at the Académie de violon Kayaleh and graduated in 2020 from an Artist Diploma at McGill University in the class of Violaine Melançon. After a complete season with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Simon reentered the musical scene in Québec. He is a member of the Orchestre symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and plays regularly with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Ensemble Galileo and the Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke. His musical horizons are diverse. In addition to his career as a baroque violinist, he plays the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument and is part of a duet in which are intertwined Québec and Scandinavian folklore music.
