SYLVAIN NEAULT

VIOLINIST

A native of Quebec, Sylvain received a solid classical education at the Quebec Conservatory of Music, at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy and at Laval University. Very early, he awakened to improvised music and the immensity of the repertoire that can be associated with the violin: for nearly 25 years, he has explored jazz, traditional music from Quebec, Ireland, Scandinavia, Romania, Hungary, Russia, Middle Eastern and South American. His great ability to improvise and his remarkable accuracy led him to accompany renowned artists such as Gilles Vigneault and Yves Lambert.

Over the years, he toured extensively in Quebec and Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe and Asia. In 2001, he took advantage of the passage of the internationally renowned violinist Didier Lockwood to perfect his knowledge in a jazz violin course at the Domaine Forget. He then studied this style at Laval University with guitarist Gabriel Hamel and saxophonist Janis Steprans; he obtained a master's degree in jazz violin interpretation in the spring of 2015.

Sylvain is currently a lecturer in jazz violin and popular music at the Faculty of Music at Laval University and at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy; explores the art of clowning in the productions “Swing Station” and “La Grande Étude” by Théâtre À Tempo; performs world music with Bazirka; gypsy swing with Des Sourcils and The Lost Fingers; Scandinavian and Quebec music with the Nordri ensemble. He regularly receives financial assistance from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, which supports him in his creative projects.
